Description
A real bone Pair of skulls of the African YELLOW RUMPED TINKERBIRD (Pogoniulus bilineatus
) The skulls were beetle cleaned and whitened with peroxide. The skull are complete with mandible, although I have not glued them to the cranium--but there is a bit of dried material about the skulls. The skulls do not exhibit any damage that I can see and are a nice example of the species. Please be aware there may be other flaws or damage that I cannot see as these were once a living thing, and living things rarely show perfection in death. These little birds are native to most of Africa, but this is not a skull that I have ever seen for sale. This is a good chance to get an unusual little bird skull for your collection. They are also quite sturdy and makes a good hands on model. They are each about 3 cm in length. I believe this is a TRUE pair--the female having a bit lighter colored beak. These little birds are actually in the barbet family--which includes the woodpeckers and toucans, making this a special species, being a non-native its one of the few piciforme skulls that are not a part of the migratory bird act that can be used for teaching or art.
PLEASE NOTE: This species is NOT a CITES animal(meaning it is not endangered) nor is it a part of the Migratory Bird Act as it is a non-native animal to the US. This makes it perfectly legal to sell and own this skull within the United States. Furthermore this animal was not taken specifically for its skull, but is a by-product of a deceased bird.
I am sorry, I will only ship within the USA.
